Boy killed, 20 injured in grenade attack on Imambargah

A teenage boy was killed while at least 20 others mainly women and children injured when unknown men lobbed a cracker at an Imambargah in FC area of Liaqatabad on Monday night. Police and rescue officials said the blast occurred when women were holding Majlis-e-Imam Hussain (AS) at 'Dar-e-Abbas' Imambargah. Initial investigations suggest that it appears to be a cracker blast, AIG Karachi Mushtaq Mehar told newsmen.
Eyewitnesses said that two men came on a bike, one of them lobbed a cracker at the camp set-up just outside the main entrance of the Imambargha, and managed to flee from the scene leaving several people injured. There was load shedding in the area at the time of the attack which helped the assailants to run away easily. Following the incident, heavy contingent of police and rangers rushed to the site The law enforcers cordoned off the area and collected evidences from the crime scene.
The victims were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment. Two of the victims were said to be in critical condition till filing of this report. Hospital sources said the deceased was indentified as Faraz Hussain,13. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah condemned the attack and sought report from IG Sindh. He also directed the hospital authorities to ensure better medical facilities to the injured. Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad also condemned the attack.
