Non-filers of tax returns: formation of special teams ordered for crackdown

Chief Commissioner, Income Tax Abbottabad, Mahmood Aslam has directed the formation of special teams on the expiry of the deadline of October 31, 2016 for filing tax returns to carrying door to door checking to impose penalties on non-filers of tax returns. The penalties would be included disqualification and blocking of the NTN numbers of the non-filers.
These directives were issued during a special meeting of the Income Tax Officers of Hazara Division held at Regional Income Tax Office, Abbottabad. Commissioner Income Tax, Zone-A, Sardar Arshad Zafar, Commissioner Zone-B Mirza Khan, Additional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Assistant Director Audit and other officials of the region attended the meetings.
The chief commissioner also urged for searching all those tax payers, which had obtained NTN, but due to some reasons failed in filing of tax returns for last few years to file their tax returns and make access to new tax payers. The chief commissioner also stressed for making contacts with businessmen, traders associations and members of tax bars in connections with conducting special awareness campaign regarding facilities for those filing tax returns and clarifying differences in filers and non-filers, which income tax exemptions and other facilities for those filing tax returns. He also directed the officers of field formations for initiating awareness campaign in the people regarding the filing of annual income tax returns.
On this occasion, Chief Commissioner, Mahmood Aslam also announced the establishment of Regional Tax Centre, Haripur and special desk at Mansehra where senior and experienced officers and staff will provide information to people regarding the filing of tax returns including the obtaining of NTN number, preparation of tax returns and payment of tax.
