There will be no compromise on the quality of higher education in the province, however, PHEC will facilitate the private sector universities to ensure quality, Chairperson Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Professor Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin said, while addressing a high-level meeting of 24 Rectors and Vice Chancellors of private universities of Punjab on Wednesday.
"The Punjab government aims to ensure easy access to higher education for students through public and private universities, but the quality of higher education will not be compromised in any case." Nizamuddin said. Talking about the mushrooming of sub-campuses of private universities in the province, Dr Nizam said that committees are being formed in this regard, which will look into the matter as per rules, and will suggest recommendations for legalizing or banning of such illegal sub-campus.
He further said that private universities are focusing more on the enrollment of the students but they are ignoring the factors of quality assurance. Special attention should be paid on enhancing the standard of research and academics. Provincial Minister for Higher Education Begum Zakia Shahnawaz while chairing the meeting said that under the leadership of Punjab chief minister, PHEC is playing a prominent role in the education sector; the contribution of private universities is vital in actualizing the vision of the government.
