Pakistan Army appoints Lt General Asim Munir as DG ISI

Lieutenant General Asim Munir was appointed on Wednesday as the new director-general (DG) of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, Lt General  Munir will replace former DG ISI Lt General Naveed Mukhtar who retired on October 1. Lt General Munir previously served as DG Military Intelligence.

In September, the army had approved the promotion his and five other major generals to the rank of Lt General. The ISPR also announced other appointments of lieutenant generals in their press release today.

The army has appointed Lt General Azhar Saleh Abbasi as Chief of Logistics Staff, General Headquarters (GHQ). Whereas, Lt General Nadeem Zaki as commander of Mangla Corps, Lt General Shaheen Mazher as commander of the strategic Peshawar Corps.

Lt General Abdul Aziz  has been appointed as the new military secretary at the GHQ, Lt General Waseem Ashraf as Inspector General Arms and Lt General Muhammad Adnan has been appointed as the new vice chief of the general staff.
