SSGC's Surveillance and Monitoring team continued its crackdown against miscreants involved in natural gas theft by raiding an apartment building near Kamran Chowrangi, Gulistan-e-Johar.
According to an estimate, about 8,000 million cubic feet of gas was being stolen that amounts to approximately Rs 10 million in monetary terms. The offenders were found using a 1-km long direct line to feed more than 70 households and two generators of 15 KV and 25 KV for running one hotel and several shops including the law firm which was also the property of the apartment building owner named Akhtar Hussain Mangi and Shabir Ahmed Mangi. The manager of the law firm beat a hasty retreat when he discovered that the raiding party was undertaking the raid.
The SSGC team summarily removed the clamps and confiscated the pipes used in taking gas directly from the supply main. Natural gas theft is one of the main causes of Unaccounted-for-Gas (UFG) or line losses, which is severely impacting SSGC's financial bottom line.-PR
