Sindh government has initiated 55 development schemes at the cost of rupees 10.498 billion for up-gradation of water, health, infrastructure, transport and electricity facilities.
Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was briefed on the details of the projects at a meeting he presided over at New Sindh Secretariat where he was briefed that 17 on-going schemes costing some Rs 2 billion would be completed by the end of June 2017 for which Rs 963 million were released so far and of that Rs 323 million were utilized.
Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) Mohammad Waseem said apart from them there were 46 schemes in various districts that cost Rs 4436.04 million and for them Rs 2247.183 million were released so far. The chief minister was informed that two dams, Kalidas and Veera Wah in Nangarparkar area were launched at the cost of Rs 703.37 million on February 18, 2015. Total expenditures made so far on the projects were Rs 35 million.
The elected representatives of the Thar area said that both the dams which were actually weirs were very necessary for the area. The chief minister directed his principal secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch to co-ordinate between irrigation and finance departments so that work on these projects could be expedited.
The road sector schemes included 5km road from Wori Dhora Road to Saringhiar in taluka Chhachhro costing of Rs 57.915 million, 24 kilometre road from Hirar Chandia to Koro village at cost of Rs 353.659 million, 30 kilometre road from Khensar to Khiro Varyam was launched for Rs 431.378 million, Chhachhro Wicholo Paar Road to village Pin Pario via Chhachi and some others roads costing Rs 130 million are almost at the final stage. The chief minister directed ACS Dev M. Waseem and Secretary Works & Services Aijaz Khan to expedite work on these roads and conduct their quality inspection.
The chief minister said that he was worried about the outbreak of dengue in Thar. On my instructions the directorate of dengue has purchased 17000 dengue kits, out of them 1000 kits have been handed over to DHO Mithi. He said the government had sent seven ULV fumigation machines to DHO Thar. He urged elected representatives to ensure proper fumigation and distribution of 74000 mosquito bed nets.
The chief minister said that the reports received by his office say that 150 dengue fever cases were reported in Tharparkar. Most of them were referred to LMC Hyderabad and they returned home after their proper treatment. Now, only 10 patients are admitted in Civil Hospital Mithi and they are being given proper treatment. The DHO has fumigated 40 villages and further fumigation would be done on the pointation of the elected representatives and concerned health officers.
The chief minister was also briefed on the water supply schemes and RO plants. Shah said he would visit Tharparkar shortly and would hand over RO plants to concerned local bodies so that they would be made functional in the larger interest of the people. The meeting was attended by Senator Engineer Gianchand, Members of National Assembly Noor Ahmed Shah, Faqir Sher Mohammad Bilalani, Member of Provincial Assembly Dost Mohammad Rahmu, Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, Khatu Mal, Chairman District Council Ghulam Hyder Samejo and Vice Chairman Karami Singh. Apart from aforesaid high officials, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, Secretary Works and Services Aijaz Memon and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
