A District and Sessions Judge of Islamabad Kamran Basharat Mufti on Friday issued a notice to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in response to a defamation suit of Rs 30 billion filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf secretary general Jahangir Khan Tareen. Filing the plaint before the District & Sessions Judge Islamabad, Tareen contended that the defendant had levelled baseless allegations of written off bank loans against him.
Tareen's counsel Salman Bashir apprised the court that the defendant had already been served a court notice, adding instead of tendering an apology, Shahbaz Sharif repeatedly levelled such allegations against his client. The counsel further argued that Shahbaz Sharif used to display blank papers while addressing public gatherings as if he had documentary proof against Tareen. After hearing arguments, the District and Sessions Judge Islamabad, issued notice to Shahbaz Sharif with directives to submit a reply in the case on November 12.
