08 Nov, 2016

The Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday dismissed a petition seeking disqualification of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his alleged failure to establish law and order in the province. Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah observed that the relief sought by the petitioner fell within the domain of Election Commission of Pakistan. The chief justice heard the petition as an objection case and upheld the objection raised by the registrar office on its maintainability.
The petitioner Azhar Abbas contended that the chief minister had failed to maintain law and order in the province. He also accused IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera of being involved in damaging peace and pleaded that the Chief Minister and the IGP were liable to be tried under treason charges.
