Intra-party elections of PTI postponed

09 Nov, 2016

The long-awaited intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were indefinitely postponed on Tuesday amid rising political tension in the country. A statement issued by central secretariat of the party stated: "In view prevailing political condition in the country, it has become necessary for the time, to close PTI election commission with immediate effect".
The party also announced to lay off all the election and directed them to handover all the equipment and hardware with complete inventory to party's central secretariat. It also said that that the party's election commission will be revived as and when the intra-party elections are announced. PTI chairman Imran Khan had earlier announced intra-party elections during the current year but the sources now say that they will be held only after 2018 general elections. Panama fiasco and party's internal rifts were the reasons behind the postponement of the elections.
