The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has so far made a recovery of Rs 3,593.295 million from nine Rental Power Projects (RPPs). However, the NAB failed to recover outstanding mobilisation advance from three companies, including Karkey, Piranghaib and Sharaqpur Rental Power Projects, according to a NAB report submitted to a sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Thursday.
Sardar Ashiq Gopang chaired the meeting of the committee. Around Rs 985 million were recovered in RPP Naudero-I case; Rs 785 million from RPP Sahiwal; Rs 1,283 million from Samundri RPP; Rs 69.255 million from Guddu RPP; Rs 47.775 million from Naudero-II; Rs 279.850 million from M/s Reshma Power RPP; Rs 142.225 million from Bhikki RPP; Rs 225 million from Gulf Rental; and Rs 50 million from M/s Young Gen.
The NAB has been investigating 12 RPPs cases wherein nine firms reportedly received more than Rs 22 billion as mobilisation advance from the government to commission the projects, but most of them failed to set up plants. The Supreme Court had declared on March 30, 2012 that the RPPs contracts were not transparent and had directed the NAB to initiate a legal action against those involved in the scam. Former Prime Minister Pervaiz Ashraf is also an accused of receiving kickbacks in the RPPs case.
