Protesting doctors, nurses end sit-in on Mall

A group of young doctors who were staging sit-in for the acceptance of their demands, ended their protest on Saturday after successful talks with the newly appointed chief executive of Mayo Hospital, a representative of protesting doctors confirmed. Sources said the protestors held talks with the chief executive of Mayo Hospital Professor Asad Aslam who assured them to resolve their genuine issues apart from taking them back in service after due legal process.
It may be noted that the health department has initiated action against protesting doctors and nurses which forced the protestors to join their duties. Earlier, police also forced the protesting doctors at Mall Road to end their protest, to open the road for traffic. Police first asked the doctors to move from the protest site and later pulled down their tents.
In the meanwhile rain hit the provincial metropolis and doctors ended their protest after success of their talks with chief executive of Mayo Hospital, People had a sigh of relief after opening of the Mall road, as protestors had made public life difficult by blocking traffic. DIG Haider Ashraf said that he had tried to talk to the protesters before dispersing them. "Police action against them was used as a last resort," he said.
