The Lahore High Court chief justice on Wednesday issued notice to the chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) in a contempt petition for failing to comply with the court's order. The CJ had directed the chairman HEC to decide a complaint within one month accusing an assistant professor of Punjab University, of plagiarism but the order was not implemented.
The petitioner, Imran Saeed, through his counsel, Saad Rasool, argued that PU Assistant Professor Zulfiqar Ahmad Bohra had committed plagiarism but the authorities were reluctant to take any action against him.
The court had asked the respondent chairman HEC to decide the pending complaint within one month but he did not decide the complaint even after the lapse of more than two months which, according to the counsel, was sheer violation of court's order.
The chief justice, after hearing initial arguments, sought reply from the chairman HEC within two weeks. The petitioner's counsel has already furnished documentary evidence against the respondent teacher and pleaded that the university authorities are going to promote the assistant professor instead of taking action against him.
