#MeToo: Bigwigs Anu Malik, Sajid Khan accused of sexual misconduct

12 Oct, 2018

#MeToo movement is getting bigger and bigger in India with each passing day, as the latest renowned celebrities who have been accused of harassment are singer Anu Malik and directors Sajid Khan and Subhash Ghai.

The MeToo movement has gained momentum in India ever since actress Tanushree Dutta opened up about getting harassed by actor Nana Patker few days ago. The most recent allegations of harassment have been leveled against three more bigwigs of the Bollywood industry.

Sajid Khan

Director Sajid’s former assistant director Saloni Chopra shared a chilling account of her experience of working with the director, when she was mentally and sexually harassed.

Saloni shared on Twitter that after she started working for Sajid, he told her that she was a ‘director’s assistant’ not an assistant director. She also revealed he started calling her at odd hours and asked what she was wearing or what she ate. He asked her to send him bikini photos as he wanted to check how she looked if she ever wanted to become an actor. For months, he touched her inappropriately and passed indecent comments about her.

After Saloni, two more women have spoken out against Sajid's grave sexual misconduct. A senior journalist has accused Sajid of misconduct. She has shared that in early 2000s when she had gone to his apartment to interview him, he talked about how he knew how to satisfy a woman.

Subhash Gai

Another woman in a Twitter post revealed that she had worked with the director Subhash Gai in a film years ago, and over time he expressed an interest in her. She further said that it was after a late music session when the director offered her a drink and accused him of spiking it.

She further said that she only remembers him taking her to a hotel room and assaulting her until she lost consciousness. However, the ‘Khalnayak’ filmmaker has strongly denied the allegations on him.

Anu Malik

Indian singer Sona Mohapatra shared an Instagram post on Wednesday in which she accused both Kailash Kher and Anu of harassment.

“To all the young girls and women who are coming out with their experiences with this creep, journalists, ‘fans’ and even kids from college, know that you are not alone. This guy, Kailash Kher is a serial predator and has been for years as are many others like Anu Malik in the industry. I cannot be tweeting about everyone because I work 18 hour work days and have a life to live and breathe in. Also I cannot comment on many others basis heresay. That would be unfair. (Many journalists have been asking me for stories thinking that I’m most likely to ‘spill the beans’. I’m not)”.

Anu Malik in an interview to New18, denied Sona's harassment claim against him.
