Women rights activists have expressed grave concern over the increasing cases of honour killing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and demanded of the provincial government to expedite legislation process for address women issues on priority basis in the province.
They stated this while addressing at a seminar on women issues organised by Aurat Foundation at Press Club, here on Tuesday. Notable speakers included Shabeena Ayaz of Resident Director of the foundation, Saima Munir, Senior Officer, representatives of non-governmental organization, legal experts and women rights activists.
Shabeena Ayaz, Resident Director, AF while speaking on the occasio disclosed that domestic violence bill is still pending with the provincial assembly and stressed the need of its immediate approval to end the growing cases of violence against women in the province.
She said that every year the AF shared and published the data about the victims of honour killing, domestic violence and others but the data in current year is more as compared to the previous years. However, she ensured that they would very soon collect the data and would bring before the media. Saima Munir, Senior Officer, AF, said that it was need of the hour to pass a law in KP which give more protection and beneficial to victim. She maintained that the KP women faced various challenges including domestic violence, early age marriages, honour killing and other problems.
