Polythene shopping bags: EPD launches crackdown against illegal factories

The Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab has launched a crackdown against the factories involved in preparation of polythene shopping bags having less than 15 micron weight in violation of the Polythene Bag Ordinance 2002. The departmental teams will carry out this crackdown against the illegal factories on daily basis to ensure preparation of polythene bags in violations of rules and their sale, sources in the department said on Tuesday.
The sources said the teams of the environment protection department visited 267 sites in different districts of the province including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Kasur, Multan, Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi, Nankana, Sialkot, Bhakkar, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Layyah, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Attock, Chakwal, Chiniot, Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Okara, Pak Pattan, Sargodha, Mianwali and Khushab. The teams found 61 factories violating the ordinance out of which 43 industrial units were challaned on the spot.
