Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday telephoned Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and congratulated him over his appointment as new army chief. According to sources, Imran Khan extended his best wishes to General Qamar Javed Bajwa for successfully meeting the challenge of country's defence and security.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who formally took the military's command on Tuesday at a ceremony, will face challenges ranging from an increasingly hostile India to the conflict in Afghanistan, threats from militants and Islamic State, and blowback from a Trump presidency. He will also take control of the military's uneasy relationship with the civilian government.
