Rs 2.6 per unit cut in power tariff: 'Nepra's decision to deprive Karachiites of relief'

President of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI), Masood Naqi has strongly criticised the NEPRA's decision to deprive Karachi consumers of relief by Rs 2.6 per unit cut off power tariff in the country. Naqi said that not only the consumers of Karachi has been deprived of this relief, the K Electric increased 48 paisa per unit in its tariff.
He said Karachi produces more than half of the exports of Pakistan, more than 10 percent of country's population lives in the city, but the consumers were not receiving the relief in electricity tariff, rather than this we are paying higher prices as compared to other parts of country, by giving the reason of privatisation of K-Electric. He reminded the authorities concerned that industrial and domestic consumers of Karachi were already paying higher tariff as compared to other parts of the country.
Masood Naqi has further said that due to expensive electricity our industry and exports are suffering a lot and legging behind in the international market, keeping this in view Industrial sector of Karachi should be provided relief in terms of tariff and other utilities. Masood Naqi said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should take the notice of this discrimination and direct for the measures to provide relief to Karachiites", he demanded.
