'Government should adopt renewable energy sources'

10 Dec, 2016

President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi said that government should not ignore the matchless potential of renewable energy sources available in the country. He urged the government to construct at least 25 mini dams at hill-torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan district and power generation units be commissioned at headwork of Taunsa, Chashma, Trimmu. He said that mini dams can generate 12500MW electricity and Pakistan can generate 50000MW of electricity by harnessing wind power sources while the potential of solar power is said to be matchless.
These sources of energy can satisfy all the needs of energy while surplus power can also be exported, he added. He suggested that Pakistan can seek support of Denmark where 43 percent of electricity is being generated through renewable sources and the share will jump to 70 percent in next four years. Co-operation with Brazil can also pay dividends where 42 percent electricity is generated through renewable, he added.
