The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Friday submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat regarding crash of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft ATR-42 near Havelian, in which 48 people lost their lives. The adjournment motion was submitted by the members of the National Assembly, including Sayed Naveed Qamar, Dr Nafisa Shah, Nawab Muhammad Yousaf Talpur, Shazia Marri and Imran Zafar Laghari in the secretariat.
The adjournment motion was submitted under rule 110 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. According to adjournment motion, "We the undersigned request that the proceedings of the House be adjourned to discuss the heartrending incident of PIA aircraft ATR-42 crash on December 7, near Havelian, in which all 42 passengers, five crew members and one ground engineer lost their lives.
This tragic incident reveals the poor state of affairs of the national airline. Initial reports suggest the incident occurred due to lack of proper air safety measures. This is sheer negligence on the part of the federal government. It is not the first accident of its kind but till date no concrete air safety strategy has been devised by the stakeholders to avoid such dreadful and unbearable mishaps. It is high time for a thoughtful and immediate introspection regarding state of airline safety in Pakistan. This is a serious issue and requires immediate discussion on the floor of the House."
