Allama Iqbal airport reopens

11 Dec, 2016

Flight operation resumed on Saturday at the Allama Iqbal International Airport after the fog got cleared, amidst delays in schedule of many local and international flights. Heavy fog had descended on Lahore and adjoining areas during the outgoing week that caused suspension of flight schedules and closure of several sections of motorway.
The visibility had reduced to 50 to 100m at Allama Iqbal airport prompting a suspension of local and international flights. According to the airport authorities, PIA`s flight PK 247 to Dammam was canceled while PK-759 flight to Jeddah and PK-725 to Riyadh were delayed.
Meanwhile, the motorway was opened for traffic after the visibility improved. Zero visibility at the motorway had halted traffic at the sections from Lahore to Pindi Bhattiyan and Sheikhupura. The motorway section was closed for the road between Pindi Bhattiyan to Faisalabad. Commuters faced immense difficulty while traveling at GT road from Lahore to Okara. The motorway authority strongly recommended drivers to drive safe and use fog lights.
