The second All Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Amateur Golf Championship came to a competitive conclusion at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course Sunday. Over the days of the championship, a total of 104 accomplished and skill loaded amateurs have striven hard to carve up victory and honours for themselves but the ultimate winner turned out to be young Hussain Hamid of Royal Palm Golf Club.
All through the final 18 holes, at least ten contenders were in the run for top honours but as the game reached the closing holes it was left to Farhan Bhatti, Isfandyar Khan and Hussain Hamid to acquire the ultimate title trophy.
These three showed immense potential and quality play and in the end it was Hussain Hamid who prevailed over his nearest rivals to secure the top prize for himself beating Isfandyar Khan by one stroke and Farhan Bhatti by three strokes.
The effort by Hussain Hamid deserves applause. Indeed he showed resilience and totally avoided any touch of nerves.With a round of net 71 on the final day, Hussain managed an aggregate of net 139, five under par for the championship and was rewarded for his effort through the award of the prized Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
The overnight leader Isfandyar had to be content with the runners up prize with a net score of 140. Farhan Bhatti came third and his score was net 142.
In the gross segment the situation became extremely interesting as three champions ended up the championship at a gross score of 149.Muhammed Rehman of Royal Palm was declared winner of first gross as he had a better score in the closing 9 holes. Mohsen Zafar of Gymkhana came second and Ahmed Baig of Garrison ended up third.
At the conclusion of the Championship the prizes were awarded to the performers by Major General Mohammed Tahir, HI and HI (M), Adviser Security and Intelligence in a grand prize distribution attended by Mian Misbah ur Rehman,Agha Ali Imam, Zahid Nabi Malik, Najam Hafeez (CNS Engineering), Muneeb Khawaja (Schneider Electric), participating golfers and families.
Major General Muhammed Tahir is a golfer himself and appreciated the fact that golf is a game of skills and expertise.
