Pakistan's permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva, Tehmina Janjua has been elected to preside over the Fifth Review Conference of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons. According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, "The unanimous decision was taken at the start of the five-day Review Conference in Geneva."
"The Convention and its five Protocols deal with prohibitions and restrictions of certain conventional weapons, balancing humanitarian concerns with their military utility," he said. "The election of Pakistan as President of this important Conference is an endorsement of the country's strong credentials in multilateral diplomacy," he added. "It reflects, in particular, the international community's confidence in, and recognition of Pakistan's contribution to international security and arms control related issues," he said.
