Chairman Qaumi Watan Party, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has demanded judicial inquiry in Gadani Shipyard incident to determine the exact extent of losses. In a statement here Tuesday, he said it would provide authentic and real data of the victims for helping out the compensation and other related issues. He resented that the Balochistan government was hiding the death toll and detail of missing persons which was source of concern.
He deplored that the over 200 workers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had either been killed or missing but the Balochistan government had not given exact figures which dismayed the affected families. Sherpao said over 6,000 workers had been employed in Ship breaking Yard but they lacked regulation and inspection of safety standard, adding that effective legislation was the need of the hour to protect the interests of labourers.
Mili Rehbar said it was commercial operation which provided financial profits to the owners therefore they could save their skin from responsibilities to a vulnerable and exploited workplace. He added they should adopt all pragmatic measures for safety measures and welfare of working class. He said that KP Assembly had passed resolution in the matter, which was truly representing the aspirations of people of KP. He asked the federal and Balochistan governments to implement the resolution in letter and spirit.
