The newly constructed 14-storyed Transplant Centre of SIUT (Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation) is being inaugurated on Wednesday. The Centre is constructed over an area of 2 lakh 50 thousand square feet at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 billion in a period of four years. The Transplant Centre is designed to meet the futuristic challenges of transplant sciences.
The Centre one of its kind in the country will cater the transplant needs of some delicate organs including liver, intestine, pancreas, bone marrow and cornea. SIUT is already known as a premier institution of the country known for carrying out 5,000 successful live related kidney transplants with life time follow up medications of donors and recipients for past many years.
The Centre is equipped with 100 beds facility with integrated facilities like transplant wards, ICUs, pre-transplant unit, donor ward, out patients clinic, radiology, state of the art modern operation theatre, laboratory and rehabilitation centre where SIUT can manage all transplant under one roof.
The establishment of Transplant Centre of SIUT is an outcome of the generous donation by Suleman Dawood family who funded the project on the behest of SIUT. The family has already donated generously for setting up an oncology centre and a 100 station dialysis unit.
The ultimate goal of the newly constructed Transplant Centre is to enhance the transplant activities in the country and give a new dimension to the overall activities of SIUT where all treatment is free with dignity. The inaugural ceremony of Transplant Centre will also be attended by prominent personalities of transplant sciences.-PR
