Greater traffic jams, more commuter misery

14 Dec, 2016

The commuters suffer very much due to massive gridlocks during rush hours on main University Road and other parts of the city that have become a routine as thousands of vehicles remain stuck for hours. This traffic jam causes wastage of fuel and kill the precious time of the citizens on their return from their offices while the officials fail to take needed action to sort out this problem.
Invalid and wrong parking and violation of traffic rules are also the main reasons behind traffic jams. A lot of people cannot find their way due to inappropriate parking of cars, motorcycles and also owing to those vehicles that come from opposite direction on one-way track. Relevant officials seem to have been silent spectator towards this issue. Traffic police remain indifferent and make no efforts to control traffic neither they apprehend one-way tracks' violators.
The worst-affected people are students, workers, patients and elderly citizens, who remain stuck up in the congestion. Traffic movement remains badly affected near Civic Centre and Mosmiyat (Met office) due to lack of proper traffic management by the relevant authorities. Other worst-hit areas are: Daudpota Road, Abdullah Haroon Road, I. I Chundrigar Road, M. A. Jinnah Road, Civil Lines Road, Liaquatabad, Shahrah-e-Sher Shah Suri, Guru Mandir Roundabout, Old Sabzi Mandi Road, etc, where thousands of people get irritated due to this problem and complain about negligence of traffic police and relevant authorities of the provincial and local governments.
