Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Tuesday submitted a privilege motion in the National Assembly Secretariat against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for giving statement about trail of funds in connection with Panama Papers on the floor of the House. The privilege motion was submitted by Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, MNA Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, MNA Shazia Atta Marri and MNA Dr Nafisa Shah in the Secretariat of the National Assembly.
According to the privilege motion, "We the undersigned wish to raise a question of privilege against the Prime Minister. The PM had stated on the floor of the House on explaining the trail of funds used to purchase properties in London and other places that were mentioned in Panama Papers."
"However, while testifying before the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister, through his lawyers, rendered this statement frivolous as a mere "political statement" and was not to be taken seriously. This implies that all his previous policy statements are also to be taken likewise. The statement of a Prime Minister is the most sacrosanct part of the proceedings of the Parliament.
"This position of the Prime Minister is the contempt of the Parliament and a breach of the privilege of the whole House. This matter should be taken up for discussion before it is sent to the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedures & Privileges for further action."
