16 Dec, 2016

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a references filed for disqualification of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan and PTI General Secretary Jehangir Khan Tareen till Dec 26. Chief Election Commissioner former Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan headed the bench.
Imran Khan's lawyer Naeem Bokhari argued that the reference against his client was forwarded by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq so he (Sadiq) should pursue it himself. Jahangir Tareen's lawyer said that Talal Chaudhry and Muhammad Khan Daha have filed an appeal to appoint Akram Sheikh as the lawyer for this case, which is illegal as they could not replace their lawyer under the electoral laws. The commission also postponed the hearing of a reference against MNA Captain Safdar (Retd) till December 19.
