Criticality of higher education for economic development highlighted

Provincial Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that the role of higher education sector is very pivotal in ensuring composite development of the country, as it develops students as "future leaders" to steer the country towards progress and prosperity.
In this perspective, it is important that the students should take full interest in research studies as well as promoting creative thinking so that they could find out of box solutions in their fields. This would help the country to confidently walk side by side with the developed nations. He was addressing the peace seminar at University of Education, Lahore on Saturday.
He said that the students should also keep themselves fully informed of latest happenings around them, adding that they should strive to improve their intellectual ken according to market-needs. He maintained that different steps have been taken to improve the standards of higher education sector and pointed out that 0.1 million laptops would be distributed in talented students during the financial year 2016-17.
The students are our best ambassadors who can bring laurels for their country with hard work. We must always remember that Pakistan is our pride and we should work hard to let other nations realize that Pakistanis are the best in the world. While talking with reference to the APS Peshawar carnage, he said that whole nation is united to eliminate terrorism so as to make Pakistan peaceful and secure place for our children who will have equal access to education.
The function was also addressed by Vice Chancellor, University of Education Dr Rauf e Azam and anchorperson Sohail Ahmad Warraich. On the occasion, students presented a stage-show depicting the menace of terrorism. Later, the minister Raza Gillani distributed shields among the students winning prizes in the painting exhibition.
