Traders to hold protest rally against KE today

30 Dec, 2016

Traders on Thursday announced to hold a protest demonstration against the KE for its 'negligence' that causes fire outbreaks in the congested markets of old city areas. The traders also blamed the city's 'poor' Fire Brigade Department that is scantly equipped to cope with the fire threats. The protest rally is being taken at 3pm. today from Timber Market old city area to the Sindh Chief Minister House.
"The KE is receiving bills but never installed electricity meters to shops. The temporary electricity connections to the shops continue to cause short-circuits and result in gutting of millions of rupees goods," Chairman All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, Atiq Mir said.
The Fire Brigade is also chaotic which has never responded to any fire incidents promptly and is poorly equipped, he said, adding that the traders were holding a protest rally against both organizations for their 'deliberate' negligence that scaled up risks for the businessmen.
"The poorly organized Fire Brigade continues to inflict millions of rupees losses on the public for its weak system holds up its performance," he said, adding that the department was also short of skills and equipment. He said that the KE and Fire Brigade were equally increasing threats to the public property and safety. He asked the government to pay compensation to the traders for loss of their property to such untoward fire incidents and equip the Fire Brigade with latest extinguishing instrument and its officials with skills.
