Maryam sole owner of offshore companies: Imran

04 Jan, 2017

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan claimed on Tuesday that Maryam Safdar is the sole owner of Nelson and Nescoll and there is no mention of Hussain Nawaz as owner of these companies. The PTI leader has submitted fresh documentary evidence with the Supreme Court against the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over their alleged involvement in Panamagate scandal.
Speaking at a press conference along with Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jehnagir Khan Tareen and others, the PTI chairman said that there is only one woman Maryam Safdar who is holding Nelson and Nescoll companies as owner. "There was no trust that Hussain Nawaz wanted to establish and of which Maryam was a trustee....in fact she is the real owner," he added.
Khan alleged that the letter by a Qatari prince submitted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with the Supreme Court in Panama Leaks case was fraudulent and demanded that the prince should be sent behind the bar. He claimed that the letter by the Qatari prince is a fraud and that PTI would expose it, adding Maryam Safdar is not the trustee but a beneficiary owner of the companies and the Mayfair flats are also owned by her.
"In 2004, the worth of Mayfair flats were Rs 4 billion. Where did Maryam acquire such an enormous wealth from?" he questioned. He said that on every platform, Maryam had claimed that she lived with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, which only meant that it was not her but Nawaz Sharif's wealth. He said that PTI collected evidence in the past couple of weeks when there was a break in the Panama Leaks case proceedings.
Imran claimed that documents provided are solid evidence and they vindicate his party's stance regarding Nawaz Sharif's offshore companies. The Supreme Court now has a trail of documents to investigate the matter, he said, adding this matter may now be decided in about two weeks.
If the prime minister, he added, doesn't accept the documents exposing the scam, he should take the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) to court. "The documents are public, available and undisputed...drag them [ICIJ] to the court if you think they are lying," he added.
"Every week, PML-N's 'Moto Gang' claims that PTI has not brought forth any evidence. Collecting evidence is the job of NAB, FBR, FIA and other investigative agencies," said Imran. Imran said that Nawaz Sharif's money had been laundered abroad and all these offshore companies were set up under Maryam's name. He said that signed affidavit by Ishaq Dar is a proof of Nawaz Sharif's money laundering.
He challenged the government to sue the ICIJ for naming the Sharif family in the Panama Leaks scandal if their claims of innocence are really true. Imran said that PTI had unearthed the money trail. He said that his party had found various emails and linked them together to create a chain.
"It is not my money but the money of the Pakistani nation which has been stolen and we will fight till the end to bring it back, no matter what happens," vowed Imran. "Nawaz Sharif has told a lie both on floor of the assembly and in court. Sharif family doesn't have any money trail to prove its innocence," he added. He stated that he has faith in the Supreme Court bench hearing Panama Leaks case and claimed whatever will be the verdict of the apex court, the PTI will accept it wholeheartedly. About the recent decree issued against him by hard-liner religious clerics for allegedly misinterpreting the verse from the Holy Quran, he said that a Muslim can not even think of saying anything against the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
