'An expedient memory recall'

06 Jan, 2017

This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "An expedient memory recall" carried out by the newspaper yesterday. The writer seems to have taken a non-charitable view of veteran but maveric politician Javed Hashmi.
According to her, "The Hashmi conspiracy theory mix makes little sense, though its timing makes much sense regarding intent and objective. The gentleman has been in the political wilderness ever since he left the PTI and had to resign his National Assembly seat as well. The general elections are round the corner. This is time therefore for him to carry favour with his old party boss, and win an assembly ticket for himself and possibly for his daughter as well."
An objective analysis of the exchange of barbs between Imran Khan and Javed Hashmi would show that the former is still learning the ropes despite his introduction as a politician nearly two years ago. He seems to have turned himself as a 'Mr U-turn' because of his highly flawed approach to politics.
Insofar as Javed Hashmi is concerned, his attacks on Imran are clearly aimed at teaching him a valuable lesson in relation to politics. Why is Imran Khan consistently inconsistent? Why has he expended so much of his energy on seemingly trivial issues? Why has he failed to cash in on the opportunity that people of Karachi have provided him with nearly 1 million votes in the 2013 election? There is, however, little doubt about the fact that both Imran and Hashmi seem to have lost their marbles.
