Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) Monday submitted a calling attention notice in the National Assembly Secretariat over disappearance of poet, social activist and academic, Salman Haider from Islamabad. PPP MNAs Dr Nafisa Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar, Dr Azra Fazal, Shazia Mari and Shahida Rehmani submitted a calling attention notice in the National Assembly Secretariat.
According to the calling attention notice, "We the undersigned would like to invite the attention of minister for interior to the disappearance of a poet, social activist, and academic Salman Haider, causing grave concern among the public. He has been missing from Islamabad since Friday but the law enforcing agencies have not been able to trace him or to provide satisfactory answers on this serious incident.
"It is highly concerning that activists and intellectuals from other parts of the country have also gone missing in the last one week. The pattern of these disappearances suggests that it is a planned and a co-ordinated action, undertaken to silence the voices, which are critical of prevalent socio-political issues in Pakistan.
