Customs valuation of Tablets increased

10 Jan, 2017

Directorate General of Customs Valuation (DGCV) has increased the Customs valuation of Tablets devices of different brands. According to the valuation guidelines issued here, the Directorate General has initiated an exercise to develop database values for different items wherein it has been observed that declarations are of wide range and do not correctly reflect values of the items as traded in the international market.
During the scrutiny of previous clearance data, it has been observed that Tablets of different brands falling under PCT heading 8471-3010 are being assessed at different values and certain transactions are on very low side.
It said that Directorate General after carefully examining the clearance data also conducted market and online inquiries to verify the authenticity of declarations; adding that these values were however for reference/guidance only and final assessment may be made after considering other factors which have bearing on the customs value. Keeping the findings in view, the Directorate General has made upward revision in the Customs valuations of Tablet devices of different brands.
Meanwhile sources said that DGCV had now issued valuation guidelines for the Tablets of different brands as the said items were earlier cleared in accordance with previous customs values. However, the said Customs valuation for the Tablets are quiet low hence the department has revised the Customs valuation after proper market survey. They said that DGCV had revised the Customs valuation of Tablet devices from Samsung, Amazon, Alcatel & Ionic brands.
