SEPA shuts down production processes of 4 industrial units

The Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) shut down the production processes of 4 industrial units in Hyderabad SITE area here Wednesday under charges of violation of the environmental regulations. The Regional Director of SEPA Munir Ahmed Abbassi said that a beverages factory, a pharmaceutical company and 2 paper mills had been closed.
According to the Regional Director, SEPA repeatedly served notices to those factories asking them to install in-house effluent treatment plants and to bring the house keeping with the environmental standards. The factories/mills where the production process were stopped includeing M/s Haji Shafi Paper Mill Site Area Hyderabad, M/s Haji Alauddin (Prime Paper Mill) Site Area Hyderabad, M/s Standard Drug Company Site Area Hyderabad, M/s Pakistan Beverages Limited (Pepsi Cola Bottlers) Site Area Hyderabad, M/s Premium Oil Industries Site Area Kotri, M/s Amar Rice Industries Site Area Kotri and M/s Top Enamel Site Area Kotri.
During his surprise visit to different factories/mills the Incharge (SEPA) Regional Office Hyderabad Muneer Ahmed Abbasi has informed that the action had been initiated for prevention and control of environmental pollution emanating from said industrial units which causing adverse impact there as these were releasing untreated industrial waste into the canals. He also informed that the said industrial units were continuously found violating the Sindh Environmental Protection Act, 2014. He warned mills/factories owners to ensure effective emergent measures regarding control of environmental pollution by the installation of treatment plants and other necessary anti-pollution equipments failing which action would be taken against them.
