PQM moves High Court for Saturday rally

17 Jan, 2017

Pakistan Qaumi Movement (PQM) Chairman Iqbal Kazmi on Monday approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) seeking permission to take out rally on January 21, 2017 in which Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain is likely to address.
Earlier in the month, PQM had announced to take out Pakistan Istehkam Rally from Ayesha Manzil to Mazar-e-Quaid. MQM-London convenor announced in his video-linked press conference that Altaf Hussain and other leaders will address the rally.
Kazmi submitted in his petition that he had approached the all concerned authorities to acquire the permission to hold the rally but they are using delaying tactics. Citing home secretary, commissioner Karachi, deputy commissioners of district East and Central as the respondents, the petitioner prayed to the court to direct the authorities concerned to allow PQM to take out rally on Jan 21.
The SHC is likely to take up this petition today. Kazmi, who is providing his party's banner to Altaf, has a history of moving the petitions in the courts against him and other leaders of the party. His one of the petitions had sought formation of a larger bench to re-hear the 12 May, 2007 mayhem case in which Altaf was nominated as one of the respondents.
