Nazia Ejaz, the daughter of Melody Queen Noor Jehan, the winner of Staff Nomination Award from University of South Australia, is holding exhibition of her paintings 'The Green Room" at Canvas gallery. The launch of this exhibition of paintings held on Tuesday and will remain open daily from 11 am to 8 pm (excluding Sundays) up to January 17-26.
'The Green Room' examines themes of perception and identity. Nazia Ejaz is an Adelaide based artist, originally from Lahore. Her work is about the binaries that permeate multiple levels of our social perceptions and interactions.
CEO Canvas Gallery Sameera Raja said Nazia's career spans over the past 2 decades. "Originally from Lahore, Nazia has been living in Australia for the past 12 years. As a Diasporas artist, Nazia's concerns about nostalgia, space, identity and perceptions have evolved over time," said Sameera.
Nazia said: "My work is about binaries that permeate multiple levels of social perceptions and interactions turning them into mediated experiences". She added that she uses geometric patterns in her practice to suggest an external order or organisation enforced onto the surface of the canvas. "These patterns, derived from my cultural heritage and cross-cultural life experiences, continue the theme of screens that has been central to my recent practice," stated Nazia.-PR
