20 Jan, 2017

The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges has summoned three retired air marshals, who had served as chairmen Civil Aviation, for a briefing on the PIA plane crash near Havelian, Abbottabad. The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Senator Dr Jahanzaib Jamaldini. The committee adopted two reports, including a privilege motion and breach of privilege of the house.
The first report was on a privilege motion moved by Senator Muhammad Daud Khan Achakzai and Senator Rozi Khan Kakar against chief secretaries and senior members of boards of revenue (BOR) of Balochistan, KPK and FATA, secretary communications and MD FWO for not attending the meetings of Senate Standing Committee on Communications.
The second report adopted by the committee was on breach of privilege of the House by secretary Aviation Division and Director concerned of PIA for not providing complete/appropriate information regarding PIA air crash near Havelian, Abbottabad.
Senator Muzaffar Hussain Shah remarked that cause of the PIA plane crash has not yet been communicated to the committee.
Senator Samina Abid pointed out that due investigation should be conducted to investigate the issue further, saying there is a need for a thorough investigation instead of putting the blame on the deceased pilot and 'framing' the crash as a result of human error. The committee summoned three retired air marshals who had served as chairmen Civil Aviation for briefing on the issue.
