Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly, seeking a debate on misuse of official helicopter by Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan for a public meeting in his constituency.
PTI MNA Ghulam Sarwar Khan from Taxila, who is considered to be an arch rival of Nisar, submitted the motion with the National Assembly Secretariat, calling upon the NA Speaker to initiate a debate on the issue by suspending the proceedings of the House.
He took the plea that the minister used the official chopper for his private business as he was going to attend a rally in his constituency, which is not permitted under the law, adding misuse of the helicopter under any circumstances for a private business is illegal.
"I call upon the NA Speaker to suspend the proceedings and fix the issue for the debate, so that such practices will not happen again by the elected representatives as use of the helicopter by minister was purely for private proposes," he added.
The interior minister, who claims to be the champion of rule of law and is a critic on misuse of power, stunned all and sundry by taking chopper to Chakri for addressing a crowd of his party last week.
The only justification for using the official chopper with the minister was that the roads leading to the rally venue were blocked as the some construction work was under way.
