Equitable share of life for women urged

An appreciation ceremony to pay tribute to Dr Naima Tabbasum, Assistant Professor, Far East and Southeast Asia Area Study Centre, University of Sindh upon having authored a book titled "Women in Pakistan: Socio-Cultural and Politico-Legal Domain".
The ceremony was held at Library Hall of the Centre and it was presided over by Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat, Vice-Chancellor, University of Sindh. In his presidential remarks, Dr Burfat said that writing a book was an intimidating task in itself and writing a book on status of women was a kind of real ordeal.
He asserted that Dr Naima Tabbasum deserved rich applause as she had indulged in the given difficult realm of writing. Dr Burfat said that very few people knew the real meaning of the nomenclature called "Aurat" as it possessed ten difference shades of meaning and two versions of meaning in English.
Dr Burfat said that Dr Naima's book offered useful insights in to the status of women in Pakistan which was far from satisfactory. He said that a lot of ground had been covered in terms of legislative, economic, socio-cultural and politico-legal development of women in the country, yet a great deal of work was still needed to provide equitable share of life to women. Dr Burfat maintained that the Government of Pakistan had initiated many developments programs for the women in terms of education, training, and financial support.
