Health issues: work on formulating comprehensive draft bill under way

The work on formulating a comprehensive draft bill on health issues is under way and 90 per cent work in this regard has been completed, Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulation and Co-ordination was told on Thursday.
The Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination met here with Senator Dr Ashok Kumar in the chair. The agenda of the meeting was to look into 'The Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues (Amendment) Bill, 2016.' The bill was introduced by PTI Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati in the Senate during its sitting held on December 19, 2016.
Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati told the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulation and Co-ordination that he is ready to take back 'The Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues (Amendment) Bill, 2016' if different health bills are being clubbed to form a comprehensive draft bill.
Senator Swati said the purpose of presenting this bill is to stop illegal trade of human organs. He claimed that $2 billion are generated through this activity. Additional Secretary National Health Services informed the committee that four bills over health issues are pending with the National Assembly, while one bill relating to transplantation of human organs is pending with the Senate. He informed the committee that a monitoring team of National Health Services is working on the bills simultaneously as they have been directed to accumulate the points and come up with a single bill, covering all aspects, adding that a draft in this regard is 90 per cent complete.
