The Lahore High Court on Thursday restrained Hanjarwal police from arresting a researcher at Center for Applied Molecular Biology University of Punjab, Professor Tayab Husnain. The court disposing of the petition directed the police to hold a fair investigation after hearing point of view of the petitioner into charges of official record theft.
Professor Husnain's counsel Karamat Awan argued before the court that the authorities of the university at the behest of multinational pharmaceutical companies implicated his client and other researchers in fake cases for inventing a cheap injection "interferon" for treatment of Hepatitis-C.
The counsel said the police lodged a case against his client on charges of stealing some official documents.
He said the police wanted to arrest the petitioner.
The lawyer asked the court to restrain the police from arresting the petitioner and quash the 'fabricated' case.
