Panamagate judge falls ill

The Panamagate case hearing is likely to be adjourned for an indefinite period on Wednesday (today) due to ailment of Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh, one of the members of the five-member bench hearing the matter on Tuesday. Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh was admitted to Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology on Tuesday evening where he underwent angiography and was advised complete rest.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the course of hearing of the Panamagate case on Tuesday, Justice Sheikh's condition was quite normal as he posed a number of questions to the Salman Akram Raja, the counsel for Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif's sons. According to the Supreme Court Rules, no fresh bench could be constituted for hearing the Panamagate case until the recovery of Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh; however, if Justice Sheikh decides to recuse himself from the bench then Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar will constitute another bench to hear the matter. Till filing of this report, no directives of the apex court were issued pertaining to the bench.
