Students showcase art work in 'Thesis Show' at SU

The Students of Institute of Art & Design, University of Sindh portrayed new horizons of thoughts, novel ideas & creative flair in amazing colours and forms amid an air of festivity at the institution's Degree Show 2016-17 that opened here on Friday.
Students through their innovative works tried to highlight various socio political issues mainly focusing gender, women empowerment, honour-killing and growing social aggression in society through their body of work.
There was a great deal of diversity in the works of students belonging to different cultural backgrounds and places.
Inaugurated by the vice chancellor of University of Sindh, Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat, Dean, Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Syed Javed Iqbal, In-charge Director Institute of Arts & Design Professor Naimatullah Khilji, and a number of students and artists came to behold the thesis show.
The event could be considered the largest of its kind organised by the Sindh University under one roof, spanning over some two weeks. The work of students from different departments of the Institute of Art & Design, including Fine Arts, Communication Design & Textile Design was put on display. The communication design department displayed work by some 16 young inspiring male and female artists who screened a short film stressing discouragement of honour-killings.
Besides, another group of equally talented students of the same department demonstrated mobile application that was designed to benefit the blind, deaf & dumb students. On the other hand, another set of motivated young artists prepared a fully furnished enclosure exhibiting art works placed on a truck highlighting the problems of truck drivers.
The fine arts department displayed work by some 14 artists mostly females with majors in sculpture, printmaking, painting and miniature painting. Speaking on the occasion, vice chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat said that the students' work was remarkable and an embodiment of creativity. The show is proof that SU's ethos has successfully been planted in the land of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, he said.
