Central Punjab: Bilawal to announce district leadership in mid-February

04 Feb, 2017

Bilawal Bhutto will announce district party leadership for central Punjab in the middle of February, said party sources. They said interviews for the office of district presidents have been conducted by the co-ordination committee and Bilawal would hold a final meeting before making their names public on his visit to the Bilawal House Lahore.
Party sources said Bilawal Bhutto would also announce another public meeting of the party either in Okara, Sargodha or Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, the PPP Southern Punjab is finalising its preparations for a big public rally at Qasim Bagh Multan on March 10. The party leadership from the region including Yousaf Raza Gilani, Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood, Abdul Qadir Shaheen, Nitasha Daultan and Shaukat Basra are on their toes to make it a successful event. They are also expecting joining of some important political families of the area to the PPP on the occasion.
The party sources have pointed out that the party leadership has ignored the city of Lahore in filling up the top party slots under the reorganisation campaign.
They said the party leadership from Lahore city has been filling up top slots like central secretary general, secretary information and other positions in the past. The status of Lahore city organisation was equal to the status of the provincial party set up during the period of Benazir Bhutto, therefore, the Lahore city president was supposed to attend the central executive committee meeting at that time, they added.
Party sources said a strong bond between the party and Lahore has lost its importance after fifty years of party's existence. Right now, they added, the PPP central Punjab leadership has nothing to do with the city of Lahore, as president Qamar Zaman Kaira hails from Lala Musa, general secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan from Sargodha and secretary information Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar from Islamabad. Not only Lahore, the districts like Sahiwal, Faisalabad and Gujranwala has been ignored in selection of top positions from the central Punjab, they added.
This situation has disappointed the party workers by and large and they are once again stuck to their homes. The party sources have pointed out that the disappointment of party workers was badly felt during the Lahore-Faisalabad rally of Bilawal Bhutto a few weeks back.
According to the party sources, the management weakness of PPP has broken the contacts and mutual trust between the party leadership and party workers. The party organisation has been dissolved over the last one year but the top leadership has failed to reorganise it till date in a befitting way and it has started processions and rallies without performing the fundamental task of party reorganisation.
