Smuggled goods worth Rs 63.6 million seized

The Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Lahore has recovered a huge quantity of skimmed milk powder of assorted brands and origins in bulk packing of 25kg/bag from the premised of Saleem Rice Mills, Muridke-Narowal Road. The total quantity of bags recovered is 9349 bags (233.76 metric tons). The recovered skimmed milk bags include brands of US, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey and Indian origin.
An examination of the said goods further led to the fact that most of the bags contain stamps of 'cargo in transit to Afghanistan' that indicates that the bags were originally imported for consumption in Afghanistan under the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade and then smuggled back to Pakistan. During a preliminary investigation, it further transpired that the owners of the goods were involved in repacking the goods after printed locally to replace with those bearing the stamp of 'cargo in transit to Afghanistan'.
