Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has asked 32 private schools and educational institutions to shift to commercial areas because these institutions are involved in nonconforming use of residential buildings which is a violation of the Commercialisation Policy of the Cantonment Board.
Secretary Defence Lieutenant General Syed Zamir Ul Hassan Shah (retd) informed this to Senate Standing Committee on Defence here on Wednesday. The committee met under convener Senator Lieutenant General Salahuddin Tirmizi (retd), which discussed various agenda items. The committee took a complaint of Senator Muhammad Zahid Khan regarding closure of private schools in cantonment area.
The secretary defence said that these educational institutions were opened on lease in residential areas which is not allowed under the existing rules and regulations of the cantonment board. "The schools have been awarded time till June 30 to find an alternative commercial place to run their institutions," he said.
