Haroon Akhtar to visit Karachi today

State Minister for Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan will visit Karachi today (Thursday) to convene meetings with the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI), Pakistan Business Council (PBC), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to have input of foreign investors, multinational companies and business community on taxation issues.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that the OICCI has approached the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) seeking payment of pending sales tax and income tax claims of 57 overseas investors, multinational companies/corporate entities and banking companies involving amount of Rs 45 billion. A request was made to review and take action on updated list of long pending tax refund claims of OICCI members which remain unsettled despite promises and compliance with relevant formalities.
He will convene a separate meeting with Pakistan Business Council (PBC) to have its input on tax policy and other issues being faced by the Pakistan's largest private sector business groups, including multinationals. Haroon Akhtar will also meet Chief Commissioners of Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) Karachi and Large Taxpayer Unit Karachi-II and chief commissioners of RTOs-I, II and III Karachi, RTO Quetta, RTO Hyderabad and RTO Sukkur. During the said visits, the minister would review the performance of the said LTUs and RTOs pertaining to the revenue collection.
During his tour to Karachi, Haroon Akhtar would also meet officials of the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue to review the performance of FBR's intelligence arm.
