PFA carries out surprise checking of canteens of hospitals

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday carried out surprise checking of canteens of hospitals in different cities of the province and imposed heavy fines on 36 canteens on the charges of flouting rules of hygiene.
As per information, canteen of the Punjab Cardiology Hospital was imposed a fine of Rs5,000 because of open drains, dirty fans, open trash bins and covering eatables in newspapers. Similarly, cafeteria of Fatima Memorial Hospital was fined Rs5,000 and Mansoora Hospital canteen was fined Rs6,500. Canteens of Muhammad Bashir Memorial Hospital, Ghurki Hospital, Nawaz Sharif Hospital and various others were also fined.
The PFA also ordered these canteens to get license from the Authority for carrying out food business. The PFA team also checked canteens of 10 hospitals in Gujranwala, 14 in Faisalabad, 10 in Multan and seven in Rawalpindi.
