CADD asked to ensure availability of new medical machines in hospitals

17 Feb, 2017

National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat has expressed serious concern over shortage and out of order medical machines in the public hospitals of Islamabad. The committee met with Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan in the chair here on Thursday. The committee discussed the situation of public hospitals and budgetary proposal of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
It was revealed during the meeting that ventilators and machines for dialysis, MRI and CT scan of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Polyclinic, National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM) and CDA Hospital are insufficient as most of them are obsolete as well as nonfunctional. Consequently, the patients are being referred to private labs to obtain tests at heavy costs.
The committee directed the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) to ensure availability of new medical machines in all government hospitals of the federal capital to cope with the requirements of the patients.
The committee also discussed the proposals of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the financial year 2017-18 relating to Civil Aviation Authority and its attached departments. The committee appreciated all the proposals but directed the Civil Aviation Division to ensure completion of ongoing projects before initiation of new projects, besides ensuring their timely completion to avoid financial losses.
The committee unanimously passed the budgetary proposals of the Civil Aviation Authority for the upcoming financial year.
The committee highly appreciated the performance of the CAA, but directed it to ensure the completion of New Islamabad International Airport within given timeframe. The committee also directed the CAA to ensure provision of international standard facilities at the airport.
The committee also appreciated the completion of Ramma Dam near New Islamabad International Airport in the short span of time and directed that the management of the airport may ensure the availability of other basic facilities before its inauguration likely to be held on August 14, 2017.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Rasheed Ahmed Khan, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Sardar Mansib Ali Dogar, Syed Ali Raza Abidi, Asad Umar, Dr Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto, Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Shehnaz Saleem, Nighat Parveen Mir and Farhana Qamar, and senior officers of the ministries/departments concerned.
