Security on high alert in Islamabad

In the wake of growing terror threats, Islamabad police put security on high alert and launched joint search operation along with Rangers and other security agencies in the outskirts of the federal capital on Thursday.
A police official said that personnel of Islamabad police, Rangers and other security agencies conducted a search operation in the jurisdiction of Shall police station, arrested 18 suspected persons and recovered huge cache of weapons from them.
He said that following the terrorist attacks in various parts of the country including Lahore, Peshawar and Mohamand Agency, the search operation was launched in the city. Law enforcement agencies conducted operation in different areas including Niazian, Humak, GT Road, Bahria Town and areas adjacent to Oil Depot Shall and Shall Police College.
The official said that search operation was headed by Superintendent of Police Dr Syed Tanveer Mustafa. He said more than 300 houses were searched and 18 suspects were arrested. He added that recovered arms and ammunition include nine pistols, one 44-bore rifle, and seven 12-bore single barrels from the nabbed persons. The suspects have been shifted to police station for further investigation.
He said that main purpose of this search operation is to ensure high vigilance in the city and every effort will be made to ensure protection for the citizens.
